DETROIT IS A PLACE TO EAT!!!

Detroit has seen an explosion of restaurants open in past 10 years, with many located nearby the hospital’s campus, and has grabbed the attention of foodies around the nation. Thanks to the increasingly multicultural population of the city there are options available for just about all tastes and budgets. Whether it’s pizza, schwarma, or craft beer Detroit has established itself as one of the premier dining locations in the country, and was even named #13 hottest food cities of 2016 by Zagat.

So what is the best place to eat in Detroit??

Slow’s BBQ

slowsSlow’s Website and Yelp Profile

“Home run! This BBQ joint is the real deal. We sat at the bar, where we find the best bartenders. Friendly, efficient, and welcoming. “

“The pulled pork had a wonderfully subtle smoke flavor. It was tender and succulent. There were 5 homemade BBQ sauces, and I had a hard time deciding my favorite between Apple, Spicy, Sweet, and two different Carolina sauces. I tried them all with my waffle fries.”

Green Dot Stables

“Their focus is sliders, and the flavor combinations are as diverse as the neighborhood.”

“This is a really great place to hang out with some friends. I love the idea of sliders as the main part of the menu. It is great for a snack or you can mix and match and try a bunch of different things.”

The Hudson Cafefrench toast

Hudson Cafe’s Website and Yelp Profile

“Went out of our way to have breakfast here. It was fabulous! I had the apple walnut stuffed french toast, my husband had the graham cracker crusted french toast with a side of corned beef hash. We both loved our food, couldn’t finish it because the portions are huge!”

“It was THE BEST waffle I had ever tasted. Fluffy, perfectly sweet on it’s own and served with whipped cream and warm syrup. The presentation was just as lovely.”

Mercury Burger Barmbb

Mercury Burger Bar’s Website and Yelp Profile

“The garlic fries are to die for and they do the best poutine around.”

“Burgers were full of flavor, juicy. Fries were well seasoned and a nice selection of beers. Great music- indie pop, made for a great atmosphere!”

Tony V’s Taverntony vs

Tony V’s Tavern’s Yelp Profile

“Great pizza, great food and fast service. Go in there for Monday’s and while It isn’t crazy, you get a great atmosphere with good food.”

“Great brick oven pizza and cheap prices on craft beer. Tuesday they have $1 labatt beers!”

Russell Street Delirussell street

Russell Street Deli’s Website and Yelp Profile

“Consistently good food. I love stopping here for lunch when I’m in the neighborhood. From their soups and salads, to their sandwiches.”

“Awesome local and organic breakfast food! Pretty good coffee as well. First visit, I had eggs, turkey bacon/sausage (can’t rem which at the moment), toast. Second time had their corn beef hash – omgosh it was so good! It’s affordable…spent about $11.”

Detroit Beer Companydbc pizza

Detroit Beer Company’s Website and Yelp Profile

“Great place to come before sports games (so close to Comerica and Ford Field!), and a good place to warm up after the auto show.”

“Right in the heart of downtown, the Detroit Beer Company is a great place to watch a game or grab a drink with friends! The first thing that stands out about this place is their selection of beers which are of course brewed in house! Another thing that stood out is the food. Usually at a place like this you don’t expect much from the food but DBC delivers here as well.”

Sala Thaisalathai

Sala Thai’s Website and Yelp Profile

“From the drunken noodles to the pad Thai hands down delicious!”

“One of the best thai restaurants I’ve been to. Whenever I’m in the Detroit area, this is my go to thai joint (and I’ve tried a lot all around the metro area). The ambiance is wonderful, with carved wooden booths and great decor. The curries are by far some of the most flavorful and robust. Great complexity. The spice level at Sala thai is beyond most all other thai places. I usually order hot or extra hot; not at Sala thai. Medium or medium plus is just right. They will warn you if you order hot.”

Motor City Brewing Worksmcb

Motor City Brewing Work’s Website and Yelp Profile

“The Bronx Bomber was best though; this place has some of the best pizza I have ever eaten.”

“As far as I know, the only brick oven pizza place in the area, and boy can you tell the difference. This stuff is like an art form when they present it to you, and my favorite is the Sopla Fuego, a spicy italian sausage pizza with a kick of habanero. Also, hands-down the best spinach artichoke dip I’ve ever had.”

“Every beer on the menu is worth trying. Ghettoblaster is what got me hooked but the IPA is a keeper too. They also make their own sodas (or “pop” for us Michiganders).”

Traffic Jam and Snugtraffic jam

Traffic Jam and Snug’s Website and Yelp Profile

“It’s the kind of place to go when you’re not sure what you want because they have something to satisfy everyone! The menu is eclectic as is the motif!”

“The food, atmosphere, staff, service were all great. Loved it! I had the Hawaiian Islands Salmon, which was cooked just right with a great lime sauce drizzled lightly over it. My wife had the Pork Loin Kamatsu salad, which was interesting, to say the least, and definitely a winner. We had their house-brewed beer and some of their house-made ice cream, and even the house-made bread!”

Bucharestschwarma

Bucharest’s Website and Yelp Profile

“Best chicken schwarma in the city and cheap too!! If the schwarma isn’t enough to draw you in, the fact that you can enjoy your sammy with a nice cold craft beer at Cliff Bells should be! Perfect for lunch, dinner or pit stop before/after Lion’s/Tigers/Wings games.”

“Bucharest Grill has a broad variety of take-out Middle Eastern food. Across the board, it’s good, and portion sizes are very generous.”

Supino Pizzeriasupino

Supino Pizzeria Website and Yelp Profile

“I have yet to find a pizza anywhere that is better than Supino’s, and that includes Italy, NYC, and Chicago. The pepperoni is particularly remarkable due to the quality of pepperoni they use. Once, my family ordered a large pizza split with half pepperoni and half other toppings and the pizza came out with every other slice a different topping – it was an artistic masterpiece.”

“This has some of the best pizza I’ve had in the US. They expertly make their pizzas very Napoleon style thin, crispy crust. Truly how all pizzas should be made. Take a good whiff of the nice aroma, fold the pizza, eat and enjoy the freshness of each ingredient.”
