My patient Ms.X has recurrent hospitalizations to the hospital with sickle cell crises. She is actively involved in community projects to raise awareness about sickle cell disease. She is a stubborn lady, and very educated about her health and is usually very challenging and difficult to deal with by the medical staff. One time she had SOB and asked the doctors to check her for pulmonary hypertension. The medical staff were surprised and used this as proof that she is faking her symptoms or hypochondriac. She responded by saying ” do you think it is strange that someoone who have sickle cell disease all their life to know that they can get pulmonary HTN?”
