This week was an interesting topic because it makes us (as clinicians) think more in depth about our patients. Homelessness is a broad term and does not just mean living on the street. It can even encompass patients that live at family or friends homes because they do not have a home of their own (or due to their own financial condition). Our discussion in clinic on Monday was quite interesting. The most important point I learned was to think out my patient plan more thoroughly because it is easy to come up with plan for presenting complaint but can be quite difficult for the patient to follow through with it based on many barriers. An example can be as simple as asking patients to make lifestyle changes when they do not have a stable home or access to clean utilities. We went over resources we could suggest to patients but this would be quite difficult to follow through on because of need for adequate social work support that is needed.
