This week’s discussion was about homelessness and its impact on healthcare. It is incontrovertible that being homeless significantly affect the type of care a patient receives, the way the patient prioritizes his concerns, and the means to benefit from available care.
When seeing these patients, a significant time should be allocated to trying to resolve this issue because its resolution will positively affect many aspects of the patient’s life. Homelessness is associated with more stress and more mental illness. It is a constellation of risks for poor health and health care follow up.
