Based on this week’s articles, I think it is important to realize that adherence is multifactorial. Not only do patients need to have the motivation to adhere to their medical therapy, but us as providers need to assist the patient to the best of our ability to allow them to be adherent. I had a patient who had a history of Diabetes and presented with DKA. She was non-adherent to her diabetic medication. I believe as a physician, we can better educate our patients about their medications in order for them to become adherent. Many times patients do not take certain medications as they were unsure how to properly administer it. I will incorporate this with the future patients I work with.
