i Think physician bias is an important topic and has alot of implications. An important example is patients with chronic pain with repeated visits to the clinic requesting narcotics. The approach to these patients is very challenging to try to evaluate their pain vs there dependence on pain medication. What is interesting is that are biases always wrong? Is having a bias when evaluating a patient that has previously shown narcotic dependance good or bad for the patient.? In the GMAP clinic we have a red warning is desighned to warn physicians and say ” no narcotics” before we see the patient i.e instill a bias even before you evaluate the patient. In conclusion, I feel this is a very important topic that we should be aware of as physicians.
