It is important to understand implicit bias to help detect it within ourselves. After this week’s discussion, I noticed that when I see a patient with a red flag in their chart about opiate use/substance use disorder, I try to avoid bringing up the topic(of pain) especially when the clinic is busy. I am aware of this now and will try to avoid repeating it.
